Methadone service to resume.
Pharmacists are expected to resume providing methadone services within the next couple of days.
Last night, the Irish Pharmaceutical Union (IPU) called on its members to resume methadone dispensing as soon as possible.
Around 140 pharmacists, mainly in the Dublin area, had withdrawn from the HSE's methadone protocol scheme last Monday in protest at the executive's decision to cut the mark-up paid to wholesalers for drugs which are then dispensed by pharmacists under the medical card scheme.
This evening a spokeswoman for the IPU said that while it was up to the individual pharmacist to decide whether or not to resume the service the union were confident most would.
Some 3,000 recovering heroin addicts are believed to have been affected by the decision.
